Easy clustering with Bytemark

At Bytemark we can help you put together a cost-effective and powerful cluster of servers based on the excellent tools from the Linux Virtual Server Project. While our fine range of dedicated servers can be configured to handle very high throughput for your application or web site, you may find a well thought-out cluster solution is cheaper and provides you with all-important redundancy such that you need never worry about a single server failure.

All clusters have their own custom network setups, and optionally the use of our cluster directors which are special purpose routers intended to route web and email traffic to a cluster of identically-configured machines.

Clusters can be used in a wide variety of circumstances; here are three setups we’ve used in the past:

High-demand web application

This customer has an extremely high-traffic PHP web application based on a commercial control panel. We specified and built 4 dual-core Opteron servers to run the customer’s application, leaving their legacy dual-Xeon server to run the MySQL database. The site has since withstood hardware failures and continues to serve the customer cost-effectively.

Multiple Virtual Machine setup

Bytemark have a number of network services that we run which do not require the resources of their own machines. We are using our expertise in building our virtual machine software to put together a cluster of similar machines among which the different services can be shifted in their own Xen virtualiser instances. There are enough servers in the cluster such that we can back up and shift virtual servers between them in a similar fashion to our virtual machines. This web site is running from that cluster!
