Bored with setting up web and mail servers from scratch? So were we and developed our Symbiosis system which makes it very easy to handle those routine tasks.
As easy as:
Connect to your server
Create a folder, ie mybriliantsite.com
Copy PHP or static files from your desktop
Have a cup of tea (optional)
- Host PHP, Perl/CGI, htaccess files and MySQL
- Host other Linux technologies
- Host any number of mailboxes
- Simple local anti-spam service
- Documentation supplied
- Ideal for beginners and a time-saver for experts
How can I get it?
Symbiosis comes as standard with all new Bytemark servers, so if you're a recent customer or have re-imaged your system recently, it's ready to go.
What technologies does it support?
You can easily host PHP, Perl/CGI, htaccess files and MySQL, including any custom modules and settings that you might need. You have root access, so you don't need to ask permission to host new domains, different PHP settings, or create a database. You can even host any other Linux technology such as Java, Rails or Erlang.
Can I do email too?
Yes, you can host any number of mailboxes under a domain, including forwarders, IMAP/POP3 boxes and autoresponders. There is a simple local anti-spam service based on Spamassassin, but if you need managed filtering you can quickly elect to pass your email through our anti-spam service.
How do I use it?
Go to our documentation site to get started.
I'm a Linux wizard - isn't this dumbing down?
Yes! But even if you know exactly what you're doing, do you really want to do the same configuration legwork for every system? The system is open-source, you still retain root access, and can make any changes to the system that you like, and we'll even try to support you.
If you don't want the system installed, you can of course pick a standard Debian, CentOS or Ubuntu install when ordering or re-imaging your system.
