Linux Virtual Machines from Bytemark
Bytemark’s flagship hosting product is the Linux Virtual Machine.
This is a complete Linux server based on the User-Mode Linux kernel. Virtual Machines offer the full control of a dedicated server at a much lower cost, because we are able to maintain a large server and run several copies of Linux simultaneously.
As a Virtual Machine customer, you have complete root access and can run exactly the same programs as you would on a normal server. A Virtual Machine has its own IP address, kernel and filesystem, and can be upgraded to higher specification packages at any time, or a dedicated server (and you won’t need to reconfigure a thing).
Our Virtual Machines are less difficult and less expensive to manage than dedicated hardware because of our superb extras package . It includes a watchdog to warn you if your server has stopped doing what you expect and backup space so you can quickly make off-site backups—most other hosts charge for these separately, but they’re all included even in our lowest-priced package.
As a VM customer you’re also very well located; you can read more about our network but you’ll benefit from multiple gigabit uplinks to the network from our base in two Redbus data centres in London.
