Meet the team
So far we been lucky enough to manage thousands of customers with only a small team and a few contractors; here’s a short bio on each of the core team so you know who you’re dealing with.

Matthew Bloch
Matthew is a co-founder of Bytemark and its Managing Director. He has designed and written himself much of the software that manages our hosting products for customers: virtual machines, dedicated servers, backup servers and almost all the rest.
Previous to Bytemark, he has worked in software engineering roles specialising in PC virtualisation and implementation of Java virtual machines.
Pete Taphouse
Pete is the second co-founder of Bytemark and its Financial Director. Pete has built the network from scratch: his keen interest in server and network equipment keeps our products in fine shape.
Patrick Cherry
Patrick is a software developer coming from an academic background of medical physics. He is an all-round systems administration and software development ninja, having made many improvements to our support and billing systems.
Alice Tomlinson
Alice handles all our server builds, routine billing and is the resident expert on domain bureaucracy.
Steve Kemp
Steve is a Debian developer and creator of the excellent Debian administration web site. He has built and maintains our imaging and server maintenance systems.
Alex Howells
Alex came to us from the University of Aberystwyth in 2007, and brings with him experience in system administration, hardware and server hardening. Amongst other things he is taking on the provisioning of our ever-increasing amount of rack space.
