Discounts for free software authors

We have been fortunate enough to be able to base all of our business technology on Free software: Linux, Apache, OpenSSL, gcc, the list of packages we use every day and rely on is long.

So now we believe we’re unique among hosting companies in offering a 10% discount to authors of free software: we’ll consider issuing a discount to the author of any software which complies with the Debian Free Software Guidelines. Not every piece of software will qualify, but any project we consider to be important, interesting or popular in the free software world definitely will. This brings our 150MB Virtual Machine down to £13.50 per month. For authors of more significant pieces of software we’ll offer a larger discount.

On top of this, we will also consider a 50% discount on excess bandwidth fees if you want to use your Virtual Machine to distribute a popular free piece of software, which puts it well below cost price.

So if you are the principal author of a piece of free software and are considering our services, please email us and we can discount an order that you might be about to place. If you are already a customer and haven’t noticed this policy, we can apply this discount to subsequent months’ fees.
