Passwords and keys for Bytemark services

If you’ve lost track of your access to Bytemark systems, here’s a short run-down of the passwords that we will email to you, so that you can find them in your email. Alternatively, you can contact us if they need resetting.

Single sign-on

When we register you as a user of our services, you will be emailed a single sign-on login which allows you to access your account control panel, forums, chat server, and speed up repeat orders.

The email looks like this:

From: support@support.bytemark.co.uk
To: you@your.address.com
Subject: Bytemark Control Panel password for johnsmith

Dear John,

This email contains your Bytemark Control Panel login details. These
details will initially allow you access to our user forums, but are
intended to be a "single sign-on" for access to all Bytemark services.
...

You can ask for a reminder of your single sign on password at the control panel.

Virtual machine login

When you order a virtual machine from us, we will send you its IP address, root password and console shell password in an email that looks like this:

From: support@support.bytemark.co.uk (Bytemark VM support)
To: you@your.address.com
Subject: Virtual machine details for johns (80.68.88.0)

Your new virtual machine is up and running.

The root password for your virtual machine at 80.68.88.0 is xyz123 which you can get to with this command:

...

Dedicated host login

When you order a dedicated server from us, we will send you its IP address, root password and console shell password in an email that looks like this:

Thanks for your order, your machine is now installed, configured, and
available for use.

Here are the details you'll need to use to connect:

   Hostname : johns.dh.bytemark.co.uk
   IP : 89.16.0.0
Root password: xyz123 [Don't forget to change this!]

Inside /root, on the machine itself, you'll find an SSH key which may
be used to view the serial console and remotely reboot it.
...

Note that this email does not contain the key for the console shell, you must copy this off the host after you receive the email.

What’s my ‘admin’ login, what’s the mysql root password?

If you use Symbiosis we will have set your ‘admin’ user password to be the same as your root password. The mysql root password will also be the same – that is the password you’d use at the phpmyadmin interface, if you have that installed.

“In five years I've had zero unplanned downtime. But what I like best about Bytemark is their polite, prompt and knowledgeable support.”
