Setting up a chat server

Before starting this section
1. Connect to your server over SFTP using FileZilla (see Connecting to your server with and SFTP).
2. Configure at least one mailbox for your domain (see Configuring email).

Symbiosis comes with a chat server Prosody, which allows users to communicate using the Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP).

This is available for every user with a mail account for a domain, and it is straightforward to add to any domain:

  1. Create an empty file for /srv/

Once this file is in place, all email mailboxes for that domain with a password set will be able to log in to XMPP using their email address as the username.

This functionality is documented further in the reference manual.

You are currently viewing Symbiosis user documentation. Symbiosis also has a comprehensive technical reference manual.
