We're very pleased to welcome customers of Swordfish Hosting to Bytemark. We know you'll have questions, so we'll do our best to answer them here:
What changes for me as a customer?
Very little: the service you've paid for will remain the same, at the same price.
Now that you're part of Bytemark though, feel free to have a look around at the different services we can offer you. If you do have an immediate and exciting new requirement, just get in touch.
Importantly, we know that you've had great, reliable hosting for the last few years and that's something we're not going to change at all.
Who are Bytemark?
We're a technically-led hosting company founded in 2002 by Peter Taphouse and Matthew Bloch (see smiley picture). We've built a brilliant team of 23 technical staff with a focus on long-term goals and in-house expertise. You can read more at our manifesto.
We own our own data centre in York, have a secondary hosting facility in Manchester and a national network with 10Gbps of connectivity. We have a turnover of around £3 million.
Bytemark has taken over Swordfish so that your hosting continues uninterrupted. We have the same commitment to customer service that Swordfish did and we're confident that we can provide everything you currently enjoy, and more.
How do I get support?
Right now, you can keep using the same phone number and email address for support enquiries: they'll be coming through to our support team now.
It'd be best to future-proof your address book though by adding our support email address to your contact list straight away. You can also find out how to access our 24/7 urgent support.
Will there be any interruption in my hosting services during the transition?
Absolutely not without prior agreed notice. However, as Swordfish winds down, we need to take care of the transition:
Firstly, we're moving your billing information onto our system. Any invoices from 6 January 2015 will have our name on it and it might take a week to get this work done. Soon after that, you'll be able to log in to our panel and administer your personal information.
Some customers IP addresses will need to change. This won't cause any interruption in services and we'll contact you directly if and when we need to do this.
We'll need to physically move servers from Derby to York, starting at 2330 on Thursday 12 February 2015. This will mean your servers are unavailable for 3 hours. We've done this before so we expect it to go smoothly.
If you need this to happen at a different time before then, please contact us and we'll do our best to help.
What if I've got questions?
Finally, as we've said, we're committed to making sure that you keep getting the great, reliable hosting you've always had. We look forward to getting to know you.
